Our Goal
To create a unified digital platform that facilitates students' seamless transition into their purpose-built accommodation, enhances their overall living experience, and builds meaningful connections to combat feelings of loneliness and anxiety.

The Brief
Our longstanding partnership with True Student, an award-winning provider of student accommodation across the UK, is built on a foundation of shared values. With a range of thoughtfully designed spaces across six locations, True Student prioritises student wellbeing in every aspect of its operations.
Previously, information and updates were distributed through multiple channels, including social media and email. Recognising the need for an integrated digital solution, True Student enlisted our expertise to consolidate their communication onto a single, mobile platform.
The goal was to deliver a site-specific, yet cohesive student experience that would be easily managed by on-site staff, promote community engagement, and streamline essential operational processes. Key features included rent collection and reminders, as well as a simplified check-in/check-out system, reducing manual overhead and enhancing efficiency.

The Brief
The Approach
We started the project with a workshop to gather initial requirements, which were then prioritised to focus on creating a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for launch. Through a swift and iterative wireframe process, we designed the information architecture and app journeys. Our design concentrated on incorporating event booking and a comprehensive community functionality, which was more than just a chat feature. This functionality was devised to connect students together, building deeper relationships and forming the foundation of the vibrant community we aimed to cultivate.
At the same time, we facilitated True Student's brand evolution. While the primary brand colour of yellow was retained, we introduced new typographic styles, graphic motifs, and image styles to transform their identity into a stylised, lifestyle brand.
We utilised the Native Base UI library, an off-the-shelf solution that sped up the development process, and integrated Amity for the chat functionality, promoting real-time interaction and engagement among the students.

The Solution
An app that provides a user-friendly experience, allowing students to personalise their journey within the onboarding flow, view and book onto events, and communicate with other students in community-based chat groups. Location-specific information about their accommodation, as well as payment and contract management functionalities, are all within easy reach for students through the app.
From the initial onboarding process, students can customise their app experience, select their preferences, and gain access to site-specific information and updates. The app allows them to book events, enhancing their social engagement, and offers user-friendly interfaces for managing payments and contracts.
Our solution successfully digitised the student living experience, providing a cohesive platform that fostered community engagement while simultaneously allowing for site-specific management. This transformation created a seamless transition for students moving into their True Student accommodation, offering them a unified, intuitive, and community-focused platform to augment their living experience.
