2021. Wow. Where has that gone?
To be completely honest, we’re not entirely sure what ‘normal’ looks like anymore, but what we do know is that, as a team, we’ve adapted to another uncertain year, and we’ve not only made it work, we’ve excelled; growing our customer base and welcoming new talent to the team!
Working from home for the majority of 2020 taught us that ‘Parallax’ goes way beyond the walls of our beautiful office at The Elbow Rooms. Parallax is a collection of talent, skills, and brilliant people brought together by a shared passion and ambition to create innovative and transformative experiences – and these values transcend physical presence and geographic boundaries.
This year, we’ve encouraged the team to lean into hybrid working in a way that works for them. Whether that’s five days in the office, three days, or twice per month, if it’s the right lifestyle choice, then it’s right for us too. We’ve even hired seven staff members who work entirely remotely.
Saying this, we want the team to maintain a work-life balance and differentiate between a workspace and a home space. To support the creation of a ‘separate area’ and to help set boundaries, we sent a workstation to everyone’s house – chairs, noise-cancelling headphones and any other office equipment that they required. We understand the importance of ‘stepping away from the office’ at the end of the day, and you should have the ability to do that at home, too.
That said, when the guidelines have allowed, we’ve got together to celebrate everything that’s going on – work-wise and life-wise (there’s been births, marriages, new homes, new pets and even new hair cuts). We’ve also set up weekly socials/activities, which have gone down a storm!
From 5-a-side football, bouldering, running club, board games nights, a step count challenge to an unexpectedly terrifying trip to Yorkshire Scare Grounds, and many drinks in our local, we’ve made the most of them all and remembered to capture the odd pic or two:
As well as having fun along the way, several of our activities have raised money for charities close to our hearts. Christmas jumper day gave us a chance to show off our colourful side, raising crucial funds for Save the Children UK. Growing Mos in November did a great job in giving some of us a funky new look, but it also meant we could donate over £1500 to the Movember charity in support of men’s health. A growing portfolio
2021 has also been a fantastic year for expanding our portfolio. In total, we’ve secured 21 new clients, from multinational corporations, household brands and startups with big visions and big hearts. From luxury yachts to advanced manufacturing, we’re excited to continue our journey, build strong relationships and provide leading solutions. As always, our relationship with our clients isn’t skin deep, it’s a partnership that we invest our time, passion and energy into. We’ve even financially invested in three of our clients’ businesses; Kwizzbit, companions and Vivify.
We’ve also delivered some standout projects for our existing clients. The list is pretty big, but to name a few; we’ve created a sleek online quizzing platform for Kwizzbit, worked alongside Intermarketing to bring adidas’ Stan Smith campaign to life through creative in-store AR, helped Glencore launch their new code of conduct alongside TBT, built a new service with Connective3 for Compare The Market which is accessible across desktop, mobile and VR and planned powerful and strategic social media plans (paid and organic) for Cauldron Foods.
Our portfolio isn’t the only thing that’s grown this year, we’ve welcomed 20 new faces to the Parallax team, and we’re now a business of 42 (and we’re hiring still – we’ve currently got 8 live roles across all of our technical and client service functions). It doesn’t seem all that long since we were a team of 5 in our small York office, and now we’ve got 11 years under our belt and a crackin’ team alongside us.
We’re immensely proud of all we’ve achieved this year. Last year, we learnt that wishing for a ‘normal’ year doesn’t quite work, but, whatever 2022 has in store, we’re confident we’ve got the talent, ability, and experience to handle whatever’s thrown our way.
From the entire Parallax team, Merry Christmas; we hope you have a fantastic new year, and we look forward to working with you in 2022!
